Andy Katz of ESPN.com reports that Gene Keady will join Steve Lavin’s staff at St. John’s. Keady, 74, will serve as the executive assistant or advisor to Lavin.

Keady, the long-time head coach at Purdue, has served as an studio analyst for the Big Ten Network for the past four years. His last coaching gig was as an assistant coach for the NBA’s Toronto Raptors. Keady stepped down from Purdue in 2005 after 25 seasons as the head man at Purdue. He won 512 games with the Boilermakers, took his team to 17 NCAA Tournaments and won 6 Big Ten titles.

At St. John’s, Keady will observe practices, be in coaching staff meetings and assist with practice planning. St. John’s is expected to officially make the announcement on Friday.
