Tags: , , , ,’s Ben Kercheval writes that the hiring of first-year Kansas coach Turner Gill is causing some second guessing. KU is 2-4 with a season-opening loss to North Dakota State, a road loss at Southern Miss and now back-to-back defeats at Baylor (55-7) and home vs. Kansas State (59-7). Kercheval notes that success is not a distant memory for Kansas, which beat Virginia Tech in the 2008 Orange Bowl under coach Mark Mangino.

Complicating matters in Lawrence is that the athletic director situation is in flux. Lew Perkins, who hired Gill, abrupted resigned, nearly 12 months before his scheduled retirement date and Sean Lester is serving as interim athletic director.
