Minnesota still paying $5.2M in buyouts on Mason, Monson

Dennis Brackin of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune writes that Minnesota is still paying $5.2M in buyout costs associated with the firings of former basketball coach Dan Monson and football coach Glen Mason.

The article also notes the buyouts for some oft-mentioned coaches:

• Brady Hoke (San Diego State): $1.5 million until Dec. 15, when it drops to $1 million.

• Al Golden (Temple): at least $2 million, according to published reports.

• Randy Edsall (Connecticut): $500,000 buyout.

• Dan Mullen (Mississippi State): believed to have a buyout similar to Edsall; Mississippi State officials have not complied with a request for Mullen’s contract.

• Kevin Sumlin (Houston): $600,000

• Troy Calhoun (Air Force): $565,000

• Larry Fedora (Southern Mississippi) $400,000 to $500,000

Monson signs 3-year extension at Long Beach State

Tracy McDannald of the Daily 49er writes that Long Beach State basketball coach Dan Monson has inked a 3-year extension. He is signed through the 2015-16 season and will earn $281,004 this season, an 89 percent raise, and becomes the Big West’s highest paid coach.  He will receive a 5 percent annual salary increase through the duration of the contract.
