As we reported yesterday, Indiana has scheduled a 4pm eastern press conference for a “major announcement regarding the future of the football program.”

No name is mentioned, but sources confirmed to NCAA Rumor Mill yesterday that Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson will be the new coach at Indiana.

Indiana University Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass will host a press conference to “discuss the future” of the Indiana University football program at 5pm ET today.

That’s usually press release code for “will officially fire the coach.”

Lynch and the Hoosiers defeated Purdue yesterday in overtime to win the Old Oaken Bucket, but evidently the rivalry win in the regular season finale wasn’t enough.

Terry Hutchens of the Indianapolis Star wonders whether Hoosiers coach Bill Lynch can survive an 83-20 loss to Wisconsin, and calls it one of the most embarassing losses in Indiana football history. The Hoosiers are 2-20 in the Big Ten during the last three seasons, and Lynch is under contract through the 2011 season.

Indiana athletic director Fred Glass has previously indicated that IU should honor its contracts, but said yesterday, “At the end of the season I’ll go back and look at all the games just like I do with all sports. This was obviously a very tough day. But as bad as it was, I expect our players will come back hard next week and get ready for Penn State.”
