UConn coach Jim Calhoun said on today’s Dan Patrick Show, “I plan to come back (for 2011-12 season).”

The Associated Press reports that NCAA investigators met with UConn basketball coach Jim Calhoun, athletic director Jeff Hathaway and President Philip Austin on Friday in Indianapolis. The session began at 8:30 a.m. and lasted into the early evening. The issue at hand is the acknowledged violations stemming from the recruitment of former player Nate Miles.

UConn has self-imposed some penalties, but the NCAA reserves the right to levy additional sanctions. A decision from the NCAA is not expected for several months

The Waterbury (CT) Republican-American reports there is a penalty clause in the contract extension signed by UConn basketball coach Jim Calhoun last May. If he is found to be in violation of NCAA regulations, Calhoun “shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations.”

Calhoun also faces a specific penalty — a $100,000 donation to the school’s general scholarship fund — if the program loses a scholarship due to penalties associated with the Academic Progress Rate.

Would give credit for the story, but there is no byline.
