Miami coach Randy Shannon “should not be fired… yet,” according to Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel. Bianchi notes that Shannon is one of the best coaches in the country to instill discipline and graduate players. But at Miami, when Larry Coker can get fired for going 40-15, Shannon’s 24-18 overall record, 12-14 in the ACC isn’t good enough for what he terms the Hurricane fan base as “among the most spoiled in all of college football.”

Tim Brewster

Matt Hayes of The Sporting News names Minnesota’s Tim Brewster, UNC’s Butch Davis, A&M’s Mike Sherman, Miami’s Randy Shannon and Georgia’s Mark Richt as his five coaches on the hot seat.

Which five are off the hot seat? For now?  NC State’s Tom O’Brien, LSU’s Les Miles, South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier, Nevada’s Chris Ault, and Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy.

Dave George of the Palm Beach Post writes that after a home loss to FSU, Randy Shannon is skating on thin ice at Miami again. Now in his fourth season, Shannon is 24-19 overall and his highly-touted recruiting class of 2008 is almost halfway through its collegiate career. George also notes that Larry Coker won a national championship in his first year and was fired after his sixth season.
