John Henderson of the Denver Post writes that former Oregon coach and current ESPN broadcaster Mike Belloti and current Georgia coach Mark Richt are the top candidates to replace Dan Hawkins at Colorado. Belloti acknowledges having some “initial talks” with CU. Henderson also cites a source that eliminates Mike Leach because of “too much baggage.”

Eric Sorrentino of the Lawrence (Kan.) Journal World lists a handful of coaches that could be considered by Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn, a KU grad, for the vacant position in Boulder. The list includes: available free agents Bill McCartney, Mike Bellotti and Mark Mangino, interim coach Brian Cabral, Air Force’s Troy Calhoun. He dismisses Les Miles, Jon Gruden and Mike Leach as viable options.
