Diamond Leung of ESPN.com writes that a new book by George Dohrmann, “Play Their Hearts Out,” claims that UCLA coach Ben Howland and former Buckeye and current college basketball analyst Clark Kellogg improperly contacted the family of guard Roberto Nelson. Howland denies the claim and an Ohio State compliance official told the Columbus Dispatch that a violation was not commited. NCAA rules prohibit former players from recruiting players to their alma mater. Kellogg told the Dispatch he was not representing Ohio State during the call, which was facilitated by a third party, a person he could not recall. Nelson ended up at Oregon State where he sat out last season due to NCAA eligibility guidelines.

Andy Katz of ESPN.com cites sources who say that Pac-10 divisions could hinge on California and Stanford. The divisions could be announced next week and be in place for the 2011-12 football season. The Oregon and Washington schools will agree to a north-south split, but only if Stanford and Cal are in their division instead of Colorado and Utah. Stanford and Cal want to stay with their Golden State rivals.
